Financing Your Dream Home

Financing for a house and land package is a little different than a traditional home loan. Since you’re paying for the land and for the construction process, the loans are often split into two parts. 

A loan for the land: This is usually treated as a standard real estate transaction with a standard mortgage. You’ll start making repayments after settlement. 

A loan for the construction: These loans are designed to keep your costs down during the building process. The bank will release funds in stages, and you’ll draw down an agreed amount for each stage. Since most lenders only require interest repayments on the amount drawn, and you’ll only start making principal payments once construction completes. 

These loans can be arranged separately, but they’re often bundled together to keep things simple.
